Material Culture, Craft and Community: Negotiating Objects Across Time and Place

For those of you interested in material culture the Material Culture Institute of the University of Alberta is hosting the conference Material Culture, Craft and Community: Negotiating Objects Across Time and Place 20-21 may 2011.

The keynote address is being given by Pulitzer Prize winning Professor Laurel Thatcher and other presentations at the conference will be given by speakers coming from a wide range of universities and museums, including: Queen’s University, The University of Buffalo, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Goldsmith College, the University of Tokyo and the Pitt Rivers Museum, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Russian State University for the Humanities and the University of Dundee.

The exhibition ‘Fashioning Feathers: Dead Birds, Millinery Crafts and the Plumage Trade’ I am curating with Liz Gomez is being launched in conjunction with the conference. I am currently working on a website to accompany the exhibition and I will post a link to it as soon as its finished.
